The struggle between the Australian dollar (AUD) and the US dollar (USD) continued on Friday, with the longs in the Australian dollar/USD pair continuing to push through the next major resistance level of 0.6600.
This psychologically important level has become a key battlefield, and price action stagnates below it, limiting both bulls and bears. As momentum is paused, market participants are increasingly focusing on fundamental catalysts that may enhance bullish cases.
From the fundamentals point of view, the Federal Reserve (Fed) is still hesitating whether to cut interest rates in the short term. However, the focus has shifted from whether the Fed cuts interest rates to when the move could be taken.
At the same time, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) remains www.xmhouses.committed to supporting the country's economic resilience. On Tuesday, the RBA unexpectedly kept the cash rate unchanged at 3.85%, a move seen as more hawkish than expected. Although the central bank has not ruled out the possibility of future interest rate cuts, the market responded positively to the decision.
As Australia has a small trade deficit with the United States, it has limited exposure to tariff threats from US President Donald Trump, which also provides some relative protection for the Australian dollar. At present, AUD/USD is trading below the psychological resistance level of 0.6600. Prices are integrated within the rising wedge pattern formed since late April. This level continuesContinue to limit bullish momentum, price action respects the upper boundary of the wedge while maintaining higher lows, showing continued buying interest.
Support level strengthened from the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level that fell from September to April, near 0.6550. Below this level, the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) at 0.6486 and the 200-day SMA at 0.6402 provides additional support for the short-term trend.
In the upside, confirming a breakthrough of 0.6600 will open the door to test the 78.6% Fibonacci retracement level 0.6722, and further upside may aim at the October volatility high of 0.6942. However, failure to break through the current level could result in a callback to 0.6500.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) currently reads close to 59, indicating bullish momentum without overbought signal. This leaves room for further upside, although the pair may require fundamental catalysts or clear breakouts of wedge resistance to gain momentum in the near term.
